From the opening of ski resorts to New Year’s Eve celebrations, there is no better place to spend the holidays than in the Vail Valley, a hub for Colorado activities. To celebrate, we put together a list of upcoming events we’re looking forward to during the 2019 holiday season in Vail, Beaver Creek and the surrounding area.
Vail Ski Resort Opening Day | Nov. 15
Vail Ski Resort Opening Day will take place on Friday, Nov. 15. Opening Day is always a fun celebration, with people coming from around Colorado in anticipation of a great ski season ahead.
Epic ski passes for the 2019-20 season, which give access to many ski resorts in the Vail / Beaver Creek area, are on sale until Nov. 24, 2019.
Beaver Creek Resort Opening Day | Nov. 23
Beaver Creek Resort will open for the ski season on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019. Get to Beaver Creek early for first tracks — the lifts will start running at 9 a.m.
On November 27 (the day before Thanksgiving), make sure you attend the 16th Annual World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition. It is expected that 5,000 cookies will be consumed in around 20 minutes, with the winner being crowned the 2019-20 Official Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe of Beaver Creek. The event takes place between 1 pm and 3 pm in the village.
Beaver Creek Tree Lighting Ceremony | Nov. 29
Part of opening week celebrations at Beaver Creek, the 39th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, 2019. Santa Claus and his elves be in attendance, and there will be a free fireworks show over Beaver Creek Village.
Small Business Saturday | Nov. 30
Celebrate Vail Valley local businesses — and finish up your holiday shopping — during Small Business Saturday. This event helps our community’s economy and allows you to meet local small business owners.
Warren Miller’s Timeless | Dec. 6 & 7
Warren Miller’s Face of Winter, the family-friendly ski movie of the year, will be shown at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek on Dec. 6 (one showing) and Dec. 7 (two showings).
Birds of Prey World Cup Races | Dec. 6 – Dec. 8
Watch the world’s best downhill skiers race in Beaver Creek at the 2019 Birds of Prey Men’s World Cup Races. The Super G, Downhill, and Giant Slalom will take place on consecutive days. The ski event will be supplemented by other festivities, including a welcome party, silent disco, U.S. Ski Team athlete signing, raffles and more.
Artists’ Holiday Market | Dec. 6 – Dec. 8
Check out the 2019 Artists’ Holiday Market at the Alpine Arts Center in Edwards. There will be over 25 featured artists, as well as a cookies and hot cider all weekend.

Santa’s Family Fireside Holiday Party | Dec. 12
On Thursday, Dec. 12, bring kids of all ages to the Vail Public Library between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Expect crafts and caroling galore — and a visit from Santa and Ralph, the World’s Tallest Elf! A separate program for babies and toddlers will take place on Dec. 13 between 11 am and 12:30 pm.
Vail Snowdays | Dec. 12 – Dec. 15
We also love Vail Snowdays, a four-day winter celebration in Vail Village between Dec. 12 and Dec. 15. Enjoy free concerts (Modest Mouse & The Head and the Heart), aprés-ski parties, holiday shopping deals, and more.
The Nutcracker | Dec. 13 – Dec. 15
Vail Friends of Dance, featuring the Vail Youth Ballet Company, will perform The Nutcracker Ballet at the Beaver Creek Vilar Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $38 and there will be four performances.
New Years Eve Celebrations | Dec. 31
Ring in 2020 with classic Vail Valley events and celebrations. In Vail, watch the torchlight parade at Golden Peak at 6:15 p.m., followed by community fireworks at dusk.
In Beaver Creek, get tickets to the official New Years Eve celebration, a family-friendly event with dancing, DJ, games, and food by Park Hyatt. *Event not yet confirmed for 2019. Check back for details!
